How They Met

My husband and I met during our MBA Days and we do not clearly remember when was the first time we spoke but we clicked. We both loved to dance, eat, became beer buddies, became my shopping partner, and gradually turned out to become best friends. We decided to become best friends for life but it was our friends and batchmates who made us realize that we are definitely more than just friends. When I knew I had found my soulmate I took the first step and said the magical words ” I love you too” because he was too shy to ever say. Rest is a story which became a perfect two states, two cultures, wedding with open arms from both the families. I am a catholic born to adorable parents who had an inter-caste marriage so many years ago my Mom is a Punjabi and my father a Catholic. I and my sister have been lucky throughout my life to grow up celebrating all the festivals and enjoying both kinds of weddings in our family. He is a Punjabi from a fun-loving Punjabi family with a Supernani, Mom, and sister.

How They Decided to Get Married

When we told our families about our love story they were not surprised, in fact, my mother was the one who made me realize that I had fallen for him, it’s time I accept it. Both the families accepted our relationship with open arms, there was double the happiness as we would be getting married twice, once in the church and once taking the pheras.

Wedding Preparations

I satiated the shopaholic in me by my wedding shopping. It consisted of outfits from so many parts of India, Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Andhra Pradesh, Jaipur, Mumbai, and the trousseau gifted by my mother, my father (He loves getting gifts for us from his official tours) and mother in law consists of a variety of sarees, lehengas, suits, from various part of India as well including phulkari, Banarasi, Chikenkari, Bandhni, Leheria, Brocade, Katha, Taant, Mekhla, Kanjivaram, Bhagalpuri, Baluchari sarees from everywhere. My sister-in-law also got some wonderful gifts from Paris for me. I probably do not need to shop for years to come now.

Wedding Functions

Mehendi

We had a three-day wedding function and I never enjoyed a wedding so much before. It started with Mehendi on the 7th morning with a simple floral theme and we set up some very easy decor in a garden where we were staying. We had props like tiaras, quirky cushions, dance, music, and fun. I wore a cute baby pink gown which I purchased from Liberty silks in Bangalore. It was so pretty and very reasonable.

7th Afternoon we had a small family ritual where my toes are painted red with Alta and for that, I wore a Kanjeevaram saree gifted by my father and I dressed up as a traditional south Indian bride for this function. My mother arranged for bangles, accessories, chat for the guests for this

Engagement

7th evening was the engagement function with the theme “Be glamorous”. We wore our best gowns, dazzled with accessories, and broke the dance floor. We had a lovely cocktail party where almost every guest was in high spirits, and I and Jagshish also left no stone unturned to dance. I wore a silver color gown gifted by in-laws during our Roka from Kashish Boutique in Hyderabad. Jagshish wore an elegant indo-western black outfit from roop Mandir Delhi.

Church Wedding

8th afternoon was the church wedding where we said: “I do” It was an elegant blue-themed wedding. My bridesmaid wore gorgeous blue gowns and groomsmen donned blue bow ties with their suits. We had a magnificent ceremony with very custom-made brooches from the local market in Newmarket Kolkata, Flower bouquets, JL  badges for the groomsmen. My mother and her friends also designed my very long veil with pearls and flowers and put a tiara on it, along with a ring holder.

Reception

I wore a wedding gown from moksha boutique in Bangalore, Jagshish wore a suit tailor-made from Raymond. For the grand reception in the evening, we had planned for a cute decor with a white frame in the background, a chic photo booth, awesome lip-smacking food, and the grand entry with all our bridesmaids and groomsmen dancing as we entered one by one. We replicated” the office” which shows the wedding entry which was followed by the cake cutting, toast, and our first dance. We danced on “Take on Me ” as we both love Deadpool and our crazy matches with each other’s crazy. I changed into a classic oxblood lehenga from Delhi and he wore an Indo western outfit from roop mandir.

Haldi

Unlike other brides, I went back home after my wedding as there was one more wedding to go to. 9th morning started with preparations for Haldi. Now, this was the most amazing fun-filled event. We enjoyed it to the fullest. We had our props, color bombs, Decorated the same garden, and had all sorts of accessories for the ladies. We were jumping from one place to another like kid. We clicked the best photos, and we did not want it to end. I wore a yellow lehenga from Neeru’s & Jagshish wore a tailor-made yellow kurta. This was followed by a quick chooda ceremony which was very emotional along with a quick kaleera game. This was followed by the grand Punjabi wedding.

Punjabi Wedding

I wore a Rani pink lehenga from PP Sarees Delhi. I owe it to my enthusiastic mother in law who became my patient shopping partner in Delhi and we got the best outfits for our functions. Once my baraat arrived my family members went ahead and took part and danced in the baraat too and both the families enjoyed the baraat. My sisters were ready with placards of Paytm accepted, Gpay accepted for demanding shagun for grooms entry at ribbon cutting.  For milni, my parents not just honored the male guests but also honored the ladies of the groom’s family with shawls. For my entry with the help of my mother and her friends, we had made a unique bed of flowers with dream catchers and it looked grand, I can never get enough of it. I had a very basic entry on the song I chose ” Kanda Kacheya ” as I related to it the most.

Once the wedding ceremonies were done I had my Vidai and no I did not shed a tear!! because I never believed in the concept of saying goodbye to my parents. For me, this was just another goodbye where I was getting another family and I couldn’t be happier. I had a grand welcome in my new home. We had such lovely games which I had only seen in movies. Of course, I won them all. We had the ring game, shoe game, welcome puja, mu dikhai, and gifts pouring from everywhere. For the next 7 days, I and Jashish were pampered and loved. We had many welcome parties, so many new clothes to wear. Glad all this happened before the epidemic struck.

What I am so happy about is the fact that I was a hands-on bride giving instructions throughout, knowing what I want with an excellent squad to support all execution.

Wedding Decoration

I had everything DIYed right from, my juttis, entry, Flower bed made from dream catchers, Mehendi decor, Haldi decor, planning the wedding decor, deciding the bridesmaids’ bouquets, setting up props lookout for the customized bags We got our invites custom made from Prashna arts which also says our story.

TIPS They Want to Give You

Even today many believe that weddings are a time for the brides to sit back, relax, and be pampered and some shallow minds tend to criticize such brides too who do not want to sit back. But I am glad my family made the perfect team to execute this wedding, everybody paying their own part. We never sit back and relax but always work together. It is so much more fun.
