Sona and Gautam’s Journey from a Friend’s Party to Pheras

Our love story began at a friend’s party, followed by Gautam’s Instagram message. In early 2023, we told our families and had our Roka in June.

We planned a destination wedding with five events over three days. Highlights included the Mehendi, a Carnival event, a Cocktail Engagement night, and our wedding day on January 25, 2024, with Chuda and Haldi ceremonies, Pheras, and a heartfelt vidai.

How They Met

Our love story began at a mutual friend’s party. That’s when we met for the first time. The next day, I saw a message on my Instagram from Gautam Kampani. And that’s how our story began…

How They Decided to Get Married

We disclosed our relationship to our families in 2023. Gautam told his family in January, and Sona told her family in February. Both families met in March and decided to do the Roka in June. Our Roka happened on June 29, 2023. That’s when things became official, and we began our courtship journey.

Mehendi

The plan was to have a destination wedding with no more than 150 guests. Doing all the events together was the plan from the start because it’s more fun and the families tend to enjoy it more. We planned a total of five events over three days of celebration, starting with the Mehendi on Day Zero. This event included just 50-60 people from both families, ensuring that everything was in order.

Haldi & Carnival Event

The next day, we started with the Carnival event, where the purpose was to play games and enjoy ourselves fully with everyone. We made sure the host engaged the audience a lot to ensure it was super fun. A small, cute message of love for the groom was played during the couple’s entry, and we entered to the song ‘Tere Bina’ by Guru.

This event also included a flower shower and ended with the Haldi ceremony, which turned out to be quite crazy and fun.

Cocktail Engagement Night

After a short break, we had the Cocktail Engagement night, starting with the couple’s entry with pyros. This was followed by exchanging rings on stage and then a cake-cutting ceremony with a champagne pop. 🙂

The best part followed: dance performances by both families. The night was then taken over by DJ Chetan Kapoor and went on until 2 a.m. The after-party with all the youngsters continued until 5 a.m.

Chuda ceremony

The big day arrived on January 25, 2024, starting with simultaneous ceremonies for the bride and groom: the Chuda ceremony for the bride and the Haldi ceremony for the groom. We then immediately rushed to get ready for the sundowner wedding.

Wedding

The baraat started at 4:30 p.m. and they danced until 5:30 p.m. The entry included a wedding contract for the groom from the bridesmaids, which he had to sign before he could enter.

The bride entered immediately afterward because the jaimala had to be a sundowner. It was a beautiful setup, and the bride entered with her parents and brother. Her father held an umbrella, not the cliché ‘Phoolon ki Chaadar’. The groom walked down the aisle to hold the bride’s hand and walk her down the aisle.

Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for: the Jaimala. It was a beautiful garland customized by the wedding planner as discussed with the couple. They exchanged the garlands, and as they faced the audience, colorful shots went up into the sky. It was a beautiful moment captured wonderfully by the photography team, and the entire audience couldn’t help but cheer for the couple.

As the sun set, it was time for the Pheras. The couple sat for the Pheras in a beautifully set up mandap, with the moon on one side and the sun on the other. At the end of the Pheras, everyone around started ringing bells and showering us with flowers. We had a corner at the wedding with a sign saying ‘Ring the bell and wish the couple’ and it also had customized cones with our logo filled with flowers.

After the Pheras, we sought blessings from our elders and got ready for the reception. A band played during our reception, allowing the families to enjoy and dance. The photo session continued for the couple with their respective families.

The night ended for us around 11 p.m., followed by the vidai where everyone bid farewell to the bride.
