Whether it is a South Indian wedding, Punjabi Wedding, Bengali Wedding, or Rajasthani Wedding, Outfits might be different according to each religion, culture & tradition. But one thing each bride needs in their wedding is their makeup artist. Make-up Artist is the one person bride can call their best friend in their wedding, as the makeup artist plays an essential role in how the bride looks, even more than the groom in Indian weddings. All eyes are relatively on the bride.
So to choose one makeup artist whom you can trust with all your looks is essential. But how can you trust your make-up artist when you don’t know them. Here is a list of things you should consider before appointing your makeup artist so that you can trust them and get to know their style of work.
Don’t Delay Bookings
Honestly, one should start with inquiring with vendors right after your wedding dates are fixed. Some vendors get booked months before in advance. So, don’t delay and start reviewing the work of various artists and calling them to check their availability and their charges.
Once you’ve been shortlisted, it is generally good to meet them one on one. Many makeup artists even offer trials. Meeting them will give you a good idea about them personally, and their working style.
Questions to Ask them
Ask them about their team: Who will be working on you, who does hair, who is good with minimal & natural makeup, who is good with heavy bridal makeup?
Ask them about the products they use.
The time it will take you to get you ready for each occasion.
Do they allow photographers to shoot while makeup is going on?
Do they have any other bookings on the same?
Services They Offer
Ask about what services they offer, whatever the price they quote you should ideally be getting
Hairstyling
Nail Paints
Draping
Eyelashes
Even Shampoo (if you are at the salon)
So that you don’t have to take anyone else’s help to get ready. If you are not getting this then, you can ask for Discounts, It is one thing to ask for a discount or a package deal, but don’t push them too much as they will gonna compromise on the quality of products they are using. So, it is okay to ask for package deals & discounts but don’t haggle.
Advance Deposits
Like any other vendors, makeup artists as well take deposits that are not refundable in case you canceled the appointment. It would be their loss for not having any booking on that day. The balance amount will be paid after the job is done. Make-up artists who are professionals reach the location on time and put a lot of effort into getting the look which the bride wants. So, you should as well hold your end of the deal.
Family Members
As it is an Indian Wedding, you know how family members as well want to look their best on their daughter’s, sister’s wedding. So, if you have other family members of your family and friends who would like to help in getting ready, You should mention that in advance.
Delays
Delays are becoming a ritual nowadays in Indian Weddings. It is hard to keep everything in control and make sure everything to be on time. So, be in touch with all the vendors and tell them the status in advance. And if something happens that you can’t be on time, take time for a deep breath, relax and tell your artist that you are short on time, and let them do their best.
Cancellations
In case you are going to cancel the bookings for any reason, be prepared to forget the amount you paid in advance to block their dates for you. In case if the makeup artist is canceling, which they shouldn’t but any urgency can come into each one’s life. So, just ask for a backup plan, any makeup artist they can provide you to save your day. The charges, in this case, can be negotiated as well.
Outstation Makeup Charges
If you are having a destination wedding, or you need your makeup artist out of the station, chances are high that you need they will charge you extra. It is also a norm to arrange for travel and stay for the artist and the team. And you should probably not want to mix them up with your guest, as they are there for work and they need their rest.
Communicate
While you are getting ready, be free to tell them what kind of look you want or anything specific you want to add. You should be happy with the way you look on your big day. And don’t forget to be kind to your makeup artist and the team as they won’t give up unless you are satisfied with the look.
A little thought and little kindness are often worth more than a great deal of money.
